The Problem with Certification

If you go through the trouble of earning, and more importantly paying for, a computer certificate you want that to mean something. That’s why it would be somewhat troubling to find out that an 8 year old Macedonian boy has been made a Microsoft-certified professional.

I certaily believe this boy is a computer prodigy, however the learned knowledge he has accumulated do not represent the situational understanding that can only come from years of working with computers.  By 15 he will probably be working for Microsoft itself, but until then I believe he is only watering down the meaning of being a Microsoft-certified IT professional.

Then again, I highly doubt that any HR rep worth her salt would hire based soley on certificates.
