Social Justice
Social justice as a concept makes me angry. It just pissed me right off when most anyone starts talking about how “we as a culture need to take care of the poor.” Sure thing, chief. I’ll just need to stop kicking every homeless person I see in the face from now on.
What does that even mean? It is impossible for me to take care of the poor in every way; it’s so obvious I don’t think there’s anyone who actually believes that. Other options that might actually work include taking one poor dude under your wing as a “project.” You know, take care of all your pupil’s money, education, work opportunity problems. If only we could all be as awesome and with it as you, Mr. Mentor.
Or, maybe I could just regularly give money to my local church to take care of the poor. Oh, who am I kidding, that’s so boring, plus I heard they really use the money on crap like missionaries, who are on vacation in Europe or whatever.
Do I want to go down to a soup house. No, I don’t. It also wouldn’t make any sense at all to pay someone in need of a job to feed the homeless. Why should anyone give money for someone to have a job serving others when I can be miserable and do it for free. Plus I totally feel better about myself after I’ve spent some time feeling guilty.
Alright, enough of that. Now I’m serious Daniel. You can tell I’m serious because this is my serious tone. The thing is, I really, absolutely know we need to take care of not just the poor, but all our neighbors. I just hate it when you get a guilt trip without answers. So I leave you with this as one maybe answer. Be open as God moves in situations around you to help out any neighbor you see. Maybe that’s it? I wish someone would have some great advice I could, you know, use.
