It has come to my attention that my writing is far too abbreviated. Although I’ve tried to come up with a good idea that I can take to extend into a series of rather long blog entries, every good idea ends is merely expressed in a few paragraphs with no logical next step. What I’ve arrived at, then, is that perhaps I am trying my had at overly specialized ideas. So, I’ve thought of a new direction for a possible series.

I’ve always thought that the idea of humanity fearing things aquiring human sentience (ex, The Matrix, Terminator, or pretty much any movie about computers becoming intelligent) is about as stupid as the idea of someone being scared of a clown. Well, maybe that’s a bad example, but you know what I’m trying to say.

Everyone wants to see a bit of “human-ness” in the things around them. Anthropomorphism is everywhere; from people putting their dogs in dresses to concern over machines being improperly treated (like a car pushed to it’s physical limit). Humans want everything they see to have a bit of humanity in them. It’s the plague of mysticism expressing itself in a new way.

On the other hand, each example may stem from a real human connection that mearly gets distorted to other realms. Dogs do show affection and can “misbehave,” even if they don’t know any better because they are only animals. Cars do break down if pushed too far, like humans.

Is mysticism to blame or is it an innocuous poor translation of emotions? Ultimately I firmly believe that people will not fear computers, or anything, becoming intelligent, but will instead be overly eager to assume something has human intelligence. That could interesting to explore, but it still might be difficult to come up with all the other elements for an extended narrative. Let me know what you think!

In other news, my dog looks more than a little bit like a racehorse after having her dew claws removed. I don’t think that makes her a racehorse, though.
